Mevagissey Cottages
Mevagissey is a traditional Cornish village located on the south coast of Cornwall in the area known as the Cornish Riviera. The name Mevagissey is based on two Irish saints Meva and Issey (in Cornish this would be Meva hag Issey). The village dates from 1313 when it was famed for its smuggling and boat building.
Today, Mevagissey still has a busy working harbour with plenty of opportunities to take a fishing or boat trip. The streets are narrow and can be quite daunting if you are driving and on your first visit! There are plenty of shops, cafes, pubs and restaurants to explore in and around the harbour. The coast all around has an abundance of beaches worth a visit, including Gorran Haven and Porthpean. Porthpean is a safe, sandy and sheltered beach and is popular with families. Gorran Haven is a pleasant sandy beach just in front of the village of Gorran Haven.
