Helford is a pretty hamlet situated on the Helford River, which stretches up from Falmouth Bay to the old port of Gweek. There is a small ferry which cross the Helford Passage allowing visitors to visit the gardens at Trebah and Glendurgan. In the village there is a pub, cafe and the local sailing club. The scenery is very picturesque and is ideal for walking, bird watching and water sports such as kayaking, sailing and swimming.
The Helford River is home to the Seal Sanctuary at Gweek (www.sealsanctuary.co.uk) which does an amazing job rescuing and rehousing seals and sea lions. This attraction was a firm favourite with our children when they were younger. For the more adventurous how about a kayaking trip. Look at the website of Koru Kayaking for more information about prices and availability at: korukayaking.co.uk/north-coast/
The nearby Lizard peninsula has some beautiful coves and beaches, and is perfect for families, hikers and water sport enthusiasts. There are a host of pretty villages nearby with shops, pubs and cafes.
