Set on the west coast of the spectacular Lizard Peninsula, the little harbour town of Porthleven is the quintessential Cornish fishing port. Centred around the harbour, it boasts an array of cafés, restaurants and galleries and exudes a chilled, relaxed atmosphere. Porthleven is the most southerly working port in the UK, with fishing boats operating out of the harbour. This makes the town a great spot to enjoy some delicious seafood, straight from the fishing boats to the restaurants, it couldn’t be fresher!
Porthleven beach can be accessed from the town itself and provides a long expanse of sand which is separated into segments by several rocky outcrops. While away the glorious summer days relaxing on the beach with a locally made ice cream in hand!
Situated part way along a huge sweeping bay, it faces the Atlantic Ocean and is often on the receiving end of some mighty winter storms! A fabulous destination for a winter break; marvel at the awe-inspiring waves pounding the harbour walls from the cosy safety of the local pub!
The surrounding area doesn’t disappoint either; located in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the views from every cove or clifftop are picture-perfect. Travel north-west and you’ll reach Marazion, home of St Michael’s Mount – an absolute ‘must’. South takes you to the tip of the Lizard Peninsula, Lizard Point, one of Cornwall’s most iconic spots.
You won’t tire of the walks and stunning scenery, but if you fancy a day out, try the Seal Sanctuary, Flambards or Trebah Gardens. Or, go a little further afield and you can explore Penzance, Land’s End and St Ives.
Really loved the cottage, second stay. Loved Porthleven. Great area. Mr Alan McSherry - 24th October 2019

Great location. Nice and cosy and warm. Well equipped. Great restaurants nearby. Well stocked village shop.Mrs W Brooks - 9th November 2018
We have had a fabulous week here in this extremely comfortable and well-equipped house. The weather hasn't been very good but the wind makes the waves even more exciting to watch. We ventured to the Ship a couple of times and also The Atlantic (very dog-friendly - giving treats to the dog). We love Porthleven and hope to be back later this year and will definitely recommend this house to friends.Donna and Les, Moreton-in-March, Gloucs - 3rd March 2017
We've had a fantastic week in this cosy and comfortable cottage. We can highly recommend the Harbour View cafe for breakfast and whilst it doesn't look like much from the outside, the food at The Atlantic Inn and friendly staff make it well worth a visit. The Poores, Kent - 27th May 2016
Thanks for an amazing base for the week. We fell in love with Porthleven last year and just had to return. We've made good use of the dog friendly beach and Alex has enjoyed climbing on the rocks and crabbing in the harbour. Lifeboat Day was the highlight of the week - even better than last year with the addition of the S-92 helicopter! We can highly recommend The Atlantic Inn (just behind the cottage) for great food, beers, a wonderful sea view and friendly locals. A fabulous end to two weeks of relaxing in Cornwall and I'm pretty sure we'll all be back very soon!Adam, Fran, Alex (12) and Snoops the dog, Sutton Coldfield, West Midlands - 5th April 2013
What a beautiful cottage. When you book something over the phone you don't know what you are going to get but the cottage is like home from home.Jacqueline and Terry, Stoke on Trent - 15th June 2012
A lovely relaxed stay in your comfortable house. We have been coming to Porthleven for over 40 years off and on and this is one of the best houses we've been in. To arrive after a long journey and a find a clean, welcoming pace (the flowers, wine and biscuits such a nice touch) was great.Maureen and Jack F, Gloucester - 16th March 2012
Really enjoyed our stay in this wonderful cottage, so tastefully furnished and couldn't want for anything, it is so well equipped. Enjoyed watching the world go by from the front bench.Nicky, Nige and Polly the dog
We have had a week of beautiful blue skies, red hot and sunny…fabulous holiday and cottage is beautiful, full of character and charm. Chocs and wine much appreciated, thanks. Cottage is so well equipped and comfortable.Dorothy, Trev and Tilly the Westie
Wonderful time, sunny weather, spectacular seascapes, all made even better by our stay at this lovely, cosy, well-equipped cottage. It is one of the best cottages we have stayed at in Cornwall and it was spotlessly clean when we arrived.Mr and Mrs R, Mr W, Taunton
A fantastic five days in a lovely, comfortable cottage. Very lucky with the weather at the time of the year and meant Barney could make full use of the beaches as the dog ban ended 1st Oct. Great restaurants. Our second visit to Porthleven in 2 years. We'll be back again.Dale, Janice and Barney, the wire-haired fox terrier
We enjoyed four days in this beautiful cottage so close to the sea!Catine, Herbert, Leoni and Mona, Switzerland
