Set on the west coast of the spectacular Lizard Peninsula, the little harbour town of Porthleven is the quintessential Cornish fishing port. Centred around the harbour, it boasts an array of cafés, restaurants and galleries and exudes a chilled, relaxed atmosphere. Porthleven is the most southerly working port in the UK, with fishing boats operating out of the harbour. This makes the town a great spot to enjoy some delicious seafood, straight from the fishing boats to the restaurants, it couldn’t be fresher!
Porthleven beach can be accessed from the town itself and provides a long expanse of sand which is separated into segments by several rocky outcrops. While away the glorious summer days relaxing on the beach with a locally made ice cream in hand!
Situated part way along a huge sweeping bay, it faces the Atlantic Ocean and is often on the receiving end of some mighty winter storms! A fabulous destination for a winter break; marvel at the awe-inspiring waves pounding the harbour walls from the cosy safety of the local pub!
The surrounding area doesn’t disappoint either; located in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the views from every cove or clifftop are picture-perfect. Travel north-west and you’ll reach Marazion, home of St Michael’s Mount – an absolute ‘must’. South takes you to the tip of the Lizard Peninsula, Lizard Point, one of Cornwall’s most iconic spots.
You won’t tire of the walks and stunning scenery, but if you fancy a day out, try the Seal Sanctuary, Flambards or Trebah Gardens. Or, go a little further afield and you can explore Penzance, Land’s End and St Ives.
Merrilee is a beautiful cottage finished to a very high standard. The wood burner was a must on our rainy, windy week and made it all the more cosy. Amazing restaurants right on the doorstep in Porthleven, so did not get to try them all (think we will have to do 2 weeks next time). Fab burgers at Boo Koos in Helston if you fancy a drive, which was a new find for us on our 4th visit and The Mussel Shoal on the harbour of Porthleven was Superb. Went back twice. Will definately return.Mrs S O'Mahony - 10th October 2019
Lovely cottage, very well presented, very clean and has everything you need for a holiday. We loved it. Very pleased with the booking, the cottage was lovely and we had a great time.Mr Derek Stubbington - 4th October 2019
Beautiful cottage, very helpful owners. Lovely village - could move in!Mrs Laura Griffiths - 16th August 2019
An exceptionally charming property in a lovely location.Mr Timothy Hallett - 7th August 2019
Porthleven is an unspoilt gem...easy access on good roads to all the places on your tick list. Shops, pubs and restaurants all soooooo friendly..and dog friendly too...we spent three of our days just mooching around the village and coastline...unheard of for us. Such a relaxing place. The property we rented..Merrilee..was lovely..well thought out and very comfortable...bed was amazing... and the owner left added touches which made such a difference after a long drive....fresh flowers, wine, milk , eggs and a cream tea all laid out. FAB. To have enjoyed our holiday this much with " not so good" weather, it must be a great place!Mrs N Gilder - 20th June 2019
By far the best cottage we have stayed in in the last twenty years.Mr M Perry - 23rd May 2019
Will be booking to stay there again next year.Ms Lynn Thomas - 18th April 2019
Lovely propertyMiss Ruth Price - 18th June 2018
First class cottage fully equipped!Mr M Perry - 20th May 2018
Sue the owner of Merrilee made us super welcome and was on hand if there was anything we needed - which was unlikely as the house was so very well equipped and a real home from home. Porthleven itself is a lovely friendly town with a great beach and walks, plus lots of great cafes, restaurants and shops. We will definitely be coming back again.Miss Ellen Fineran - 11th March 2018
Beautiful cottage, spotlessly clean, extremely comfortable beds, well equipped kitchen, lovely and cosy (we enjoyed using the log burner during the evenings too). Perfect cottage for a family break. We hope to return and will definitely recommend to friends and family. The Shingler Family - 24th February 2018
Really lovely stay at Sues cottage. The space is very well thought out with lots of extra finishing touches. The bedrooms are a great size and the lounge is a perfect relaxation space. Porthleven is a great location for exploring south Cornwall and the cottage is within walking distance of local shops, pubs and restaurants. This is our second visit and we would live to return! The Hewett Family - 25th January 2018
This is a lovely place to stay, pristine and beautifully renovated. Modern finish but homely. Perfect location for walking to the harbour and beach and lots of wonderful cafes and restaurants to tempt you in Porthleven. The Roder Family - 14th January 2018
This is a wonderful cottage a few minutes walk from the harbour, where you will find plenty of local pubs & restaurants, all serving great food, craft ales and most importantly for us, were dog friendly. The cottage is plenty big enough for a family of 4, with everything you could want on a week away. The Swordy Family - 5th January 2018
We have had one of the best family experiences yet whilst staying at Sue’s place. Porthleven is incredible, everyone is friendly, the food is delicious and to top,if off, Sue’s place is right in the middle, a real instant home for all of us. Loved everything about it.The Garfield Family - 27th December 2017
Great cottage within a couple of minutes walk of the harbour and shops. Fully equipped kitchen which I was so grateful for as I did a pre-Christmas dinner for relatives and friends! Extremely comfortable beds and sofas, and an exceptionally clean and well-maintained cottage. The owner was very friendly and helpful but not intrusive- highly recommended!Mr & Mrs Bassett-Myers - 17th December 2017
Sue is a great host, bottle of wine and scones on arrival. The cottage is beautiful, it has lots of Cornish charm, extremely comfortable and clean. The cottage is a short walk from the sea front which has plenty of shops, cafes and places to eat and drink. I would highly recommend for a break away. We will definitely be back.Mr Sparkes - 31st October 2017
Beautifully maintained and perfectly kept cottage with all you could need for a stay in Porthleven. Great location with a welcoming host you will not be disappointed. Lovely courtyard garden for al fresco dining for the warm days and a wood-burner for the cooler ones. Would definitely recommend. Thanks for a lovely stay Sue and Ian.The Jones Family - 26th October 2017
We had the perfect stay at Merrilee and were very impressed with the overall quality of the accommodation which the owner, Sue, has so obviously put a great deal of thought and investment into. The quality of all the furniture and fittings are very good and the house is kept spotless, it's like it was renovated yesterday. Sue is a great host too and we pleasantly surprised and extremely grateful for the little personal touches such as homemade scones with clotted cream & jam which were devoured gleefully. Thank you so much, Sue, you have done a fantastic job with Merrilee! The Dimech Family - 19th October 2017
One of the most beautifully and thoughtfully decorated airbnb accommodations I've seen. The cottage is Beautiful (with capital B). It's equipped with almost anything you may wish, and even more, and of a very high standard. We took my parents (who are visiting us from abroad for a short time) to Cornwall for the weekend, and we all very much enjoyed our trip (even the weather cooperated on the Saturday, being all lovely and sunny despite the forecast predicting storms and rain). One of the highlights of our trip was Merrilee; parents particularly loved it. We only wish we could have stayed longer, and will definitely go back if we are in that part of the country again. Thank you very much Sue for our fantastic stay. The Rastegari Family - 10th September 2017
The cottage was just ideal. It was spotless, well equipped, comfortable and conveniently situated. Sue was the perfect host. She could not have been more friendly and welcoming.Mr Seddon - 8th September 2017
We loved the cottage. Sue was very friendly and helpful. All was perfect for us, even the weather :-) I would definitely recommend Merilee to any prospective guest. This part of Cornwall is stunningly beautiful. Thank you Sue for your hospitality.Ms Graham - 1st September 2017
We spent a fabulous 2 weeks in Merrilee. The cottage is extremely well presented within easy walking distance to Porthleven Harbour, shops, restaurants and beach and just a short drive to other beautiful beaches and coves nearby. Sue is an excellent and generous host, very friendly and welcoming, and full of knowledge about the local area. We would love to come back to stay and would highly recommend Merrilee as holiday accommodation. The Fenton Family - 11th August 2017
We had a lovely couple of days in Porthleven staying in this perfect cottage, beautifully appointed and comfortable with everything you could possibly want. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it and look forward to returning.Mrs Forsythe - 21st July 2017
Lovely upgraded cottage in a fabulous location within a ten Minute walk To stunning beaches and just 5 minutes into the town. Great places to eat, fabulously dog friendly and the sea was a treat to get into( if a bit chilly). I completely recommend this property and location to anyone who just needs a good rest, and enjoys swims and walks along the Lizard peninsula.Ms Smith - 7th July 2017
Merrilee is perfect for a stay in Porthleven. The cottage is spotless and fully modernised inside, very comfortable. Sue is the perfect host, we thoroughly enjoyed our scones, wine and flowers. The Taylor Family - 2nd June 2017
You will have a wonderful stay in this beautiful cottage. It really does have EVERYTHING you need for a relaxing and comfortable stay. Great that children are thought of too with the stair gate, high chair and cot bed if needed. Clean and tidy throughout the cottage with lots of little extras. If you prefer to stay in and cook the cottage has a fully fitted kitchen - oven, hob, microwave, washer/dryer and all utensils that you could possibly need. Tea and coffee facilities also. Bedrooms are bright, airy and spacious with plenty of pillows etc for a comfy nights sleep. No expense has been spared on this cottage. Would definitely recommend the cottage and will stay again in the future for sure!!The Byrne Family - 21st May 2017
The house was impeccably clean and well presented - it was like we were the first people staying after it had been decorated! The fixtures and fittings are of a house you would want to live in rather than a holiday let. It's a 4-5 min walk down into Porthleven and there is plenty of parking on the road as it's a quiet residential street. We managed to park outside the house each day we were there. Would definitely stay again.Mr Dymond - 6th April 2017
A beautiful clean and very well equipped cottage. Sue is a very attentive and friendly host. The little extras on our arrival was a nice touch. A 5 minute walk into Porthleven with a fabulous choice of restaurants and pubs. Can recommend The Square for a scrumptious meal and The ship for a drink mingling with the locals. Thanks for a lovely relaxing stay.Mr Lewis - 24th March 2017
Fabulous little cottage in Porthleven, ideal for exploring the local area. Sue the host is fantastic, lots of lovely little touches to make you feel at home and nothing is too much trouble. I can't recommend this property or Sues hospitality more highly, I will booking again soon!! Ms Forrester - 12th March 2017
I stayed in Merrilee for a fortnight in February. The cottage was warm and comfortable, and an easy walk down to the town where a surprising number of shops and restaurants were open for business. The cottage has been renovated to a very high standard, and the owner adds many personal touches to make your arrival and your holiday a really happy experience. I shall be going back!Caroline Mills - 24th February 2017
Porthleven is a fantastic Cornish harbour town and Sue's house is of the highest standard and cleanliness. Not a thing out of place. Warm and cosy for our February stay. Strolls down to the harbour and early morning bakery visits are in easy walking distance from the house. Thank you Sue for a lovely stay.Mr Phillips - 12th February 2017
Fantastic property, great peaceful location but close to the harbour. Loved the welcome bottle of wine, fresh scones and clotted cream, milk and fresh eggs. Everything was just beautiful and excellent spec, the bathroom products again were really high spec. Everything is positive, I hope to visit again Ms Ambrose - 24th January 2017
We stayed at Merilee over a weekend in December and absolutely loved it! Sue was really welcoming and helpful. The cottage is very clean, modern and cosy and has everything you could possibly need. The kitchen was really well stocked and the woodburner was great - perfect for sheltering from winter weather! Highly recommended.Mrs Johnston - 11th December 2016
Wow, the cottage was beautiful! The pictures really do not do it justice! All the small touches made our stay really relaxing - everything was provided, even down to washing machine and dishwasher tablets. We couldn't recommend the whole place highly enough, and Porthleven itself is also gorgeous! Be aware when booking that you may have to park a short walk away from the cottage as the road is residential and there is not much parking - not a problem for us though, a 2 minute walk is nothing really. Thankyou Sue!Mr Jlo - 28th October 2016
The cottage is great. We love Porthleven, 3rd visit. Good location for walks to harbour. Had a lovely stay, will return.Rob, Emma, Jack and Fudge (S Wales) - 18th September 2015
This has been the most fabulous week. The cottage exceeded expectations, not just because it has been beautifully refurbed, but the extra touches that Sue goes to, to make you feel welcome and at home. Porthleven is such a beautiful place and central to all the trips we took. The people are so friendly. Definitely coming again, hope you all enjoy it as much as we did.Becs, Gil, Mary and Sacci (London) - 4th September 2015
