Set on the west coast of the spectacular Lizard Peninsula, the little harbour town of Porthleven is the quintessential Cornish fishing port. Centred around the harbour, it boasts an array of cafés, restaurants and galleries and exudes a chilled, relaxed atmosphere. Porthleven is the most southerly working port in the UK, with fishing boats operating out of the harbour. This makes the town a great spot to enjoy some delicious seafood, straight from the fishing boats to the restaurants, it couldn’t be fresher!
Porthleven beach can be accessed from the town itself and provides a long expanse of sand which is separated into segments by several rocky outcrops. While away the glorious summer days relaxing on the beach with a locally made ice cream in hand!
Situated part way along a huge sweeping bay, it faces the Atlantic Ocean and is often on the receiving end of some mighty winter storms! A fabulous destination for a winter break; marvel at the awe-inspiring waves pounding the harbour walls from the cosy safety of the local pub!
The surrounding area doesn’t disappoint either; located in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the views from every cove or clifftop are picture-perfect. Travel north-west and you’ll reach Marazion, home of St Michael’s Mount – an absolute ‘must’. South takes you to the tip of the Lizard Peninsula, Lizard Point, one of Cornwall’s most iconic spots.
You won’t tire of the walks and stunning scenery, but if you fancy a day out, try the Seal Sanctuary, Flambards or Trebah Gardens. Or, go a little further afield and you can explore Penzance, Land’s End and St Ives.
We have always found Above the Beach Holiday staff very friendly, helpful and efficient. Porth Leven is a lovely area of Cornwall with lots of beautiful coves to discover and interesting places to visit.Mrs J Cook - 1st March 2020
Fisherman's Cottage is absolutely delightful and we had a great holiday break over Christmas. Excellent location and very close to all amenities. Above Beach Cottages is our preferred company to book with as huge selection of great properties, staff extremely helpful and the website is also very easy to use.Mrs Diana Hughes - 4th January 2019
The property was in an ideal location and because there were two parts to the property it was ideal. The property was also very in keeping with the local area and had good outside areas for relaxing.Ms Roberta Reid - 16th July 2018
A cosy old fisherman's cottage on a pedestrian street with low ceilings, steep exposed stairs, exposed walls and lots of character. The location is great although parking is at a premium. Best to park up early and leave the car there for the week. You can get most things you need by walking and there are many fine pubs, restaurants, fast food and food shops within 5 minutes walk. I wouldn't recommend this property for family with very young children or for older/disabled persons as there are a few hazards, but for our family this was a fantastic place for the children to get out and about and also lots of places for us all to eat together. We have visited Porthleven many times over the years and found Fisherman's Cottage one of the best cottages we have stayed in.Simon N - 23rd July 2016
