Steeped in history Sancreed House is a Grade II listed Georgian building, originally built as the vicarage in 1830, and continued to be until the 1920's where it was sold as a private dwelling and renamed 'Sancreed House' as part of the sale terms. Purchased in the 1960's by the renowned Cornish artist John Miller and his partner Michael Truscott, Sancreed House (which at the time included the Coach House) was his residence for 30 years until 1995.
Even today his images are still well sort after, with some of his art displayed in Truro Cathedral and The Abbey Hotel in Penzance. During this period the writer John Le Carre rented the first floor of the house for a year and it was during his time there that he wrote 'The Naive and Sentimental Lover' as well as American musical theatre playwright Burt Shevelove.
Between 1995 and 2013 Sancreed House was run as an arts retreat before being purchased by the current owners who have lovingly developed the grounds to include The Lodge, Magnolia Cottage, Azalea Cottage and Camellia Cottage.
All on one level, Camellia Cottage is beautifully furnished and consists of an open plan living area with a dining table, flat screen TV and a cosy woodburner, perfect for enjoying a glass of wine by with your loved one on a cold autumn evening. Outside to the front of the cottage is a small terrace with seating overlooking the communal gardens with countryside views towards Mounts Bay.
Between the months of May and October all guests staying in these four new cottages will have the use of a private indoor heated swimming pool.
