Set on the west coast of the spectacular Lizard Peninsula, the little harbour town of Porthleven is the quintessential Cornish fishing port. Centred around the harbour, it boasts an array of cafés, restaurants and galleries and exudes a chilled, relaxed atmosphere. Porthleven is the most southerly working port in the UK, with fishing boats operating out of the harbour. This makes the town a great spot to enjoy some delicious seafood, straight from the fishing boats to the restaurants, it couldn’t be fresher!
Porthleven beach can be accessed from the town itself and provides a long expanse of sand which is separated into segments by several rocky outcrops. While away the glorious summer days relaxing on the beach with a locally made ice cream in hand!
Situated part way along a huge sweeping bay, it faces the Atlantic Ocean and is often on the receiving end of some mighty winter storms! A fabulous destination for a winter break; marvel at the awe-inspiring waves pounding the harbour walls from the cosy safety of the local pub!
The surrounding area doesn’t disappoint either; located in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the views from every cove or clifftop are picture-perfect. Travel north-west and you’ll reach Marazion, home of St Michael’s Mount – an absolute ‘must’. South takes you to the tip of the Lizard Peninsula, Lizard Point, one of Cornwall’s most iconic spots.
You won’t tire of the walks and stunning scenery, but if you fancy a day out, try the Seal Sanctuary, Flambards or Trebah Gardens. Or, go a little further afield and you can explore Penzance, Land’s End and St Ives.
Always good service from Above Beach Cottages, great selection of properties. Hard to find a nicer place than Porthleven, especially when the sun is shining! The Ship for beers and fun, harbour view cafe for breakfasts and Kota Kai for amazing food!Mr Michael Cahill - 12th August 2018
We try & come to Cornwall every year, I never even think about using another company as we've always had great treatment from Above Beach Cottages & the accommodation has also been perfect. Thank youMr Robert Sinclair - 18th June 2018
What a wonderful holiday - accomodation superb. Our first visit to Porthleven. What a beautiful place. Views from the cottage across the harbour are really breathtaking! Wonderful walks, lovely beach! Recommend visits to The Eden Project, and Trevarno Gardens. Not forgetting the superb Minnack Theatre at Porthcurno. Eating wise - the Ship Inn (superb Seabass), and The Atlantic Inn.Jim and Chris Tyler, Stourport, Worcs
We've had a very relaxing week here in Porthleven, enjoying the locality rather than driving far-and-wide, although trip to Levant Mine and St Ives were excellent. The local beach, shops, cliff walks and eateries have all been superb. Excellent pizzas from the Deli and great meals out at the Atlantic Inn, Ship Inn and Amelies. Best pasties were from St Just.Simon and Sarah, Cambridgeshire
We have found our perfect place, well equipped and ideally located house. Cornwall is as lovely as ever, so many magic places - Church Cove is amazing on windy days. Our vote for the best pasties and good VFM - the baker at Marazion. We'll be back, don't change a thing! The Gerniak family, Chiseldon, Wilts
First visit to Porthleven - stunning! Beautiful weather, beaches and a home from home. Amelies very welcoming and dog friendly. Mousehole lovely village. Beautiful caves before Gunwalloe and recommend Barefoot Kitchen Cafe for a lovely coffee and ginger beer. Enjoyed it so much we are staying on a few extra days, don't want to leave.Steve, Dee and Barney (the retriever), Chorley, Lancashire
It has been many years since we have visited Cornwall. I have loved our time in the cottage and the area. With the weather kind we have walked east to Church Cove and west to Runsey Head. Our favorite was Runsey an old tin mine. It was strenuous, but amazing. Our trip to Lands End took us to the Minnack Theatre, this is a must. Good food at the Ship Inn and The Atlantic. Thanks, we have loved it. Can we come back?M and A, Newcastle Upon Tyne
Thank you for a lovely week in your cottage. The weather has got better as the week went on. We loved St Ives, St Michaels Mount, Lands End (walk from Sennen Cove), Flambards fun Park (Isabelles Birthday!) and Lizard Point, ending up at Dollar Cove and Gunwalloe (National Trust) dog friendly! We enjoyed food at the Harbour Inn and Kota (Isabelles 7th Birthday again!). Miley loved the beach at Porthleven!Lucy, Ian, Grace, Isabelle and Miley, Bishop Stortford, Herts
Another great visit to Porthleven! Lots of nice walks with Milly. Her first visit here and she loved it, and we all enjoyed the cottage, very dog friendly. Hope to come back soon.Chris, Jill and Milly, Bristol
