You are here:
Porthcurno is a small village nestling in a valley in the Parish of St Levan in the west of Cornwall. It has a gorgeous shell and sandy beach in the corner of Porthcurno Bay. There is a large car park at the top of the valley from which a footpath slopes gently down to the beach. There are toilets in the car park and a small cafe opposite. Restaurant nearby in the season.
Porthcurno was once an important place as it was from here that Marconi transmitted his first transatlantic communications. The Porthcurno Telegraph Museum records the history of these tele-communications and is linked to the tunnels underground which were used during WW2 and were top secret.
This part of the country has some fantastic beaches and coves to explore, and plenty of coast to explore for the avid walker. The Minack Theatre, nearby is an outdoor theatre which features various performances throughout the season, and is open at other times for visitors to have a look around and visit the cafe.
Places to visit in the surrounding area include the picturesque harbour at Mousehole, St. Ives with its bustling shops, restaurants and cafes, not to mention the Tate St. Ives, Land's End and the beautiful Sennen Cove.
