Penzance is the most westerly major town in Cornwall  and is also a busy port.   Close to St. Michael's Mount and with a long promenade, it has excellent views over Mount's Bay and has some beautiful beaches.  The town itself is centred around a busy high street with all the usual collection of recognisable shops, plus a variety of interesting delis, cafes, bakers, clothing outlets etc and even a cinema.  Penzance has working docks, pleasure craft and houseboats tied up and the boat service to the Isles of Scilly operates from here.    There is plenty to explore in and around the harbour with art gallerys, museums and of course, the popular Jubilee Pool.  This a beautiful Art-Deco open air lido which is a great place for a swim and laze in the sunshine.
Penzance makes a good place to explore the rest of west Cornwall as Cornwall becomes very narrow at this point and the north coast and St. Ives is not far away.   Nearby attractions include St. Michael's Mount, Land's End, the Minack Theatre and of course, all the beautiful surrounding beaches and countryside.
The main trainline starts and ends here, which links to London and the rest of the UK.   There is a large bus depot servicing the area with connections to all local spots.
Penzance has something for everyone, and is a great location for water sports, including surfing, swimming, angling and sailing. The beach at nearby Marazion is particulary popular with families, although be warned, the tide comes in very quickly.
