You are here:
Fowey (pronounced Foy) is a historic town and commercial seaport stretching along the west bank of the River Fowey close to where it flows into the Atlantic between Looe and Mevagissey. Opposite on the other bank is the village of Poluran connected by a regular passenger ferry and there's a car ferry upriver just above the town.
It's still a working port shipping exports of china clay but nowadays it's a haven for leisure visitors with thousands of yachts berthing every year and even huge cruise liners mooring in the natural harbour and ferrying passengers to enjoy the town.
There's plenty to interest the visitor whether for a day or a week with a wide selection of shops and galleries, quality cafes, great pubs and restaurants to suit all from value to gourmet.
Coastal path walkers arrive on the ferry and linger along the esplanade picking up supplies and enjoying a cream tea or an ice cream before making their way around the peninsula towards Charlestown.
Families looking for the beach can walk to Whitehouse or Readymoney Cove or travel the short distance to the very large beach at Par Sands.
