About Mevagissey
Mevagissey gets its name from two Irish saints, St Meva and St Issey (the "g" comes from hag, the Cornish word for "and") and is situated approximately five miles (8 km) south of St Austall. Mevagissey is a small village consists of with many narrow streets many places to eat and shop as well as a busy harbour.
About Portmellon
About one mile from Mevagissey is the coastal settlement of Portmellon. Porthmellon beach is set in a small cove and is about 150 metres long which is completely covered at high tide. At low tide there are plenty of rock pools to explore. On some occasions seals can be seen swimming off the beach or resting on the rocks. There is also a public slipway for launching boats and Portmellon has a long history of building boats with many woodenhulled boats leaving the workshop over the years!
